How to choose a boat?

Once you have chosen a charter company, it's time to choose a boat. Size, number of cabins, comfort, and how much it will cost you.

How to choose a boat?
We chose a quality charter company in the previous article. Now we will look at how to choose the ideal sailboat for your holiday. When choosing, it is good to consider all options from crew size to the comfort the yacht offers. The main criterion is the size (length) of the boat. Not only from the crew's perspective (how many people the boat can hold), but also in terms of comfort, maneuvering in marinas, and last but not least, fees. Generally, the larger the boat, the higher the mooring fees. Boat length is given in feet (1 foot = 30.48 cm) and you can easily recognize it from the name. For example, the Bavaria 45 sailboat indicates the manufacturer (Bavaria) and the length (45 feet). HOW MANY PEOPLE FIT ON A SAILBOAT? Smaller boats ranging from 35 to 40 feet usually have a maximum of three cabins. Six people fit comfortably, in some cases it is possible to sleep in the saloon, so up to 8 people can sail at once. Rental is usually cheap, so these boats are suitable, for example, for two families with children. If you want more comfort, choose a larger boat. Medium-sized boats from 41 feet already tend to have cabins for 8 people plus another two crew members can sleep in the saloon. These boats offer greater comfort: two or more toilets, more space in the cockpit, sometimes even two refrigerators. This will be appreciated especially by those who can dedicate one for beer. Larger boats from 50 feet can be considered luxurious and are more expensive. They easily accommodate 12 sailors. They have four or more cabins and offer huge space and comfort. Inside you will find a TV, several showers, a freezer, heating, or a grill in the cockpit. However, higher fees in marinas, at piers, and when mooring on a buoy must be expected. Boat size is crucial. You will realize this only when you see boats of different sizes side by side. For example, the Bavaria 41 ASTROS looks like a younger little sister next to the Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 490 NONNA. WHAT ELSE TO CONSIDER? - Number of cabins and layout (private cabin for each couple, or more people in one?) - Number and type of toilets (heads) - Age of the boat (newer boat = higher price, but greater comfort) - Equipment (air conditioning, generator, paddleboard, bimini, sailing gear) - Fuel consumption (larger engine consumes more) - Draft depth (important for certain bays) If you are not sure, tell us how many of you there will be, what comfort you want, and how much you want to spend. We will select a boat from our fleet that fits you.
